I recently completed my PhD in the School of Criminal Justice at the University at Albany, SUNY. My research investigates questions in two areas of inquiry: (1) punishment, inequality, and the criminal legal system, and (2) public opinion about criminal legal policy and reforms. My work has been published in Criminology & Public Policy, Journal of Experimental Criminology, Race & Social Problems, and Socius.
My dissertation analyzed annual, state-level data to examine the relationship between welfare generosity and imprisonment rates from 1980 to 2019. My findings revealed that the relationship between welfare and punishment is more complex than the simple, inverse association reported in prior research, especially in the 21st century.
I currently work as a Research Scientist for the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. I am also an appointed member of the Albany Community Policing Advisory Committee.
